Why are the words of Jesus written in Red?

Even the cursory reader of the Holy Bible would observe that some portions of the New Testament are written in red, namely direct quotations of the words of Jesus.

Note that this is not original to the New Testament texts (i.e. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John did not use red letters for the words of Jesus when they wrote). This is solely a convention of the Bible translators. They sought to honour the Lord Jesus by distinguishing His words from the words of others.

It is generally believed that the “letters in red” convention was gotten from Luke 22:20 where Jesus said, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

The early translators used the colour red to signify the words of the One who gave His lifeblood in sacrifice. This was COMPLETEY at their discretion and is uninspired.
