“The memory of the righteous is blessed” — Proverbs 10:7

Reading the FULL text is always beneficial;

Proverbs 10:6-7 (NKJV)

6 BLESSINGS are on the head of the RIGHTEOUS,

But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

7 The MEMORY of the RIGHTEOUS is BLESSED,

But the NAME of the WICKED will ROT.

The word “memory” (in vs. 7) translates the Hebrew noun “zeker” (זֵכֶר) which contextually refers to a memorial, for the commemoration of the deceased. Hence, the memory of the righteous is his remembrance after he is dead. It is “blessed” (well spoken of) because of the good life he led when he was alive. In contrast, the name (reputation) of the wicked will rot (be cursed), that is, he would be known for nothing good at his departure.
