“Speaking evil of dignitaries” — Jude 1:8

Jude 8

8 Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.

The word “dignitaries” here translates the Greek noun “doxas” (δόξας) which means “the glorious ones.” Jude is actually referring to angels, not political rulers. This same word was also used within the same context in 2 Peter 2:10.

In context, Jude is making reference to false teachers within the Church who “reject authority” in general and “speak evil of dignitaries (angels).” In their self-appointed autonomy, they speak sacrilegious words against heavenly beings. These false teachers, have seriously erred, because they “speak evil of whatever they do not know;” (v. 10).
